About Educational Therapy

What is Educational Therapy?
Educational therapy consists of  evaluation, instruction, and remediation tailored to the individual using educational theory to provide support to those with learning and/or social-emotional challenges.

How does this Differ from Tutoring?
Educational therapy is much more complex and involved than the tutoring process.   Educational Therapy consists of individualized assessment and the creation of an intervention plan built on student strengths.  Academic and cognitive abilities are also accounted for in the development of each individual's educational therapy plan.  Services are designed to provide assistance in not only academic areas, but social and behavioral realms as well.  The Association of Educational Therapists also maintains stringent standards for those practicing as an Educational Therapist.  Educational Therapists are highly skilled professionals with a significant graduate-level background in education and/or psychology.

How does the ET process with Dr. Nicholson work?
Dr. Nicholson will set up a brief phone intake to discuss the needs of the potential client, goals for educational therapy, as well suggestions for "next steps." Should the family or adult client decide that educational therapy is appropriate, Dr. Nicholson will conduct an evaluation to determine individual strengths and personal areas of growth. A learning or therapy plan will then be developed based on each client's unique needs.

Is ET covered by insurance?
Dr. Nicholson's ET services are not covered by insurance at this time.
